We get a lot of questions about our favorite songs, best songs to practice to, and how to slow the tempo down. We love these questions because it means you are taking your study of dance seriously and want to increase your skillset.
Our Playlists
We have created playlists for each level of salsa that include some of our favorite songs to practice too. We even included our Bachata playlist. We would love to hear some of your favorites to dance to in the comment section as well!
Slowing Down the Tempo
Slowing the tempo down allows you to emphasize proper technique, weight shift and flow of the dance. To slow the tempo down, we use a professional software by Native Instruments called Traktor. We use the Pro Version for our socials and events, but the free version should serve you well for practicing.
Timing Tracks
When first starting out with latin dance, the count can be challenging, the instrumentation distracting and the tempo overwhelming. Piotrek has created some tracks to help you gain insight into the music and succeed from the get go!
The arrangements are designed to 1. help you improve your count in salsa and 2. to train your ear to the variety of instrumentation commonly found in salsa music. You will be challenged to listen and respond to the music with your dance steps. This is a great practice resource as the tracks have slowed tempo between 60 and 70 BPM. This is the perfect tempo for beginners and intermediate dancers learning new movements.
We enjoy sharing our love of salsa with you. We hope you use these resources to take your study of salsa to the next level. Join us at our next social dance and let’s see what you have been working on. We look forward to dancing with you!
